All you KStew, RPattz and Tay Tay fans should be in hog heaven for now, as we head to the climactic journey of Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black, arriving in US theaters November 16, 2012.

The journey of these young stars, and the screen adaptations of the hit books by Stephanie Meyer, have been nothing short of a commercial and pop culture phenomenon. The wordlwide box office grosses for the films in the Twilight franchise (reported by Box Office Mojo) tell the story:

Twilight (2008)
$392,616,625

The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
$709,827,462

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)

Breaking Dawn Pt. 2 – Global Release Dates

The cumulative total for the Twilight films to date is an astounding $2.5 billion and change!

Judging by the success of the prior films, a worldwide gross north of $700 million seems assured for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, which should bring the franchise total north of $3 billion with a few hundred million to spare!

That’s a lot of dough and a lot of love from fans all over the globe, from Japan to Malaysia, Singapore to Germany, Canada to Argentina and everywhere in between.

For those experiencing anticipatory withdrawl, wondering how you will go on when it’s all over, take heart. You have five months of excited anticipation remaining before the final chapter in this modern-day tale of vampires and werewolves hits the big screen and draws to a close.

Once it’s over, there will be books to re-read and DVD’s and streaming video to watch, rekindle and experience the excitement for generations to come.

The Twilight phenomenon may have begun less than ten years ago (2005 to be exact, when the hardcover version of the first book, Twilight debuted) but its impact is likely to be lasting. Like Harry Potter, it seems destined to stand the test of time, garnering new fans, rekindling old ones and becoming a permanent fixture of the media/pop culture landscape.

And for those with shorter attention spans, looking for a new fix, there’s always The Host to look forward to, the screen adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s other novel, about parasitic aliens known as “souls” who take over human bodies.

The main character of The Host is a 21 year old human rebel, Melanie Stryder (played by Saoirse Ronan of Hanna and The Lovely Bones) and the soul (Wanda) who inhabits her body but cannot completely take it over.

The Host also features Max Irons (Jeremy Irons’ son) as Jared Howe, Jake Abel as Ian O’Shea, and Diane Kruger (National Treasure, Inglorious Basterds) as The Seeker.

The Host arrives in theaters 29 March 2013.

But first up, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.
