NEWS FLASH: FIRST LOOK!
ROONEY MARA AS LISBETH SALANDER!

Memo to Sony Pictures: Leak the footage of Rooney Mara’s screen test as Lisbeth Salander. Here’s why.
If Mara’s got the goods, and displays them in her test, imagine the excitement it will generate. Orchestrate the release if you want, make it look like someone gamed the system and leaked the footage without authorization. But get it out! Act big. Act bold. We don’t care if the footage is rough. Let the movie-going public bask in the glow of the film-making process from start to finish. Let every one who cares (there are millions, maybe tens of millions) see for themselves that David Fincher (who also directed Mara in The Social Network) made the right choice. Put our minds at ease that The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (US remake) is in good hands. That Mara can ably take over the role played so well by Noomi Rapace in the original (pictured above). How else do you expect to keep our interest piqued for the next year while we wait for some crappy teaser trailer that shows us nothing?
Better yet, release footage of all the actresses who tested for the role. Talk about your Internet video sensations! The screen tests of Mara, Sophie Lowe, Sarah Snook and Lea Seydoux (all tested, didn’t they?) would be screaming hot, topping the YouTube charts with millions of worldwide views that keep the public buzzing about the film (which doesn’t open until December 2011) for months to come.
If Sony Pictures had half a brain, they would have made this casting decision a public affair from the get-go, strategically releasing and confirming news and names, then leaking screen test footage of the finalists before announcing a winner to the world, transforming the casting contest into a public phenomenon that put American Idol to shame. Instead they teased us with second-hand information, made us rely on enterprising journalists who gleaned tidbits from inside sources, and only went public at the very end, employing the most dated, uninspired, least visual tool in the media arsenal, the boring press release!
Whoever runs Sony’s PR machine should be fired (unless they were outvoted) for letting this great opportunity be wasted when the whole affair could have been a publicity generating media circus unlike any since 1938 when David O. Selznick plucked Vivien Leigh from relative obscurity to play Scarlett O’Hara.
But it’s not too late to remedy the situation. Show me the money! I want to see Mara and the others in full makeup and dress, tattoos, nose ring, leather and all, strutting their stuff and doing their thing in fascinating behind-the-scenes test footage with Bond, James Bond . . . I mean Bloomvist, Mikael Bloomvist by their side. Lisbeth Salander is one tough-as-balls, ruthlessly resourceful, photographic memory keeping, computer hacking chick. Prove that Rooney Mara knows it too. That she lives the part, breathes it, does it proud!
Or bludgeon me with another press release. The choice is yours.

She is ugly. How is she going to be a lead in a film? Why not get an actress that has some edge but a cuter face?
Are you aware of the source material, the Swedish trilogy, the book? Lisbet Salander is not a pretty face. She won’t be the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest and Played with Fire if she were…. *SHUDDERS* CUTE,.
