Studios Pay Theaters Cash To Run Trailers

What’s so special about this latest trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse? [Answer below.]

The Answer: If it’s playing in a theater, the theater owner may have gotten paid cold hard cash to run it by the studio or film distributor. That according to Hollywood Reporter in an article that reveals marketing secrets that studios and distributors use to get their film trailers played at the local multiplex. Bottom line, cash changes hands, even if it’s hidden by reducing the film rental fee, or ends up in the budget for lobby and concession promotions. Sometimes it gets paid from prints and advertising. Those movie guys are creative when it comes to financial matters, which makes you wonder why they’re so adamantly opposed to real money trading of futures contracts based on box office revenue. See Jabcat’s Box Office Futures Page and Jabcat’s Box Office Futures Category for more on that subject.

As for trailers, we love ‘em and don’t mind watching more than a few before each film. More than 20 trailers are available for immediate viewing on this site by clicking in the TRAILERS box you can find in the sidebar. Even more trailers are available by clicking on TRAILERS in the Navigation Bar at the top of the page.

Trailers run for free at Jabcat On Movies, but if any studio or film distributor wants to forward payment to ensure continued exposure/placement on this site, you know where to reach me.
