Read Movie Industry Letter Opposing Box Office Futures Trading

April 5, 2010 · 0 comments

Several movie industry trade organizations, including theater owners, directors and studios have joined forces to oppose trading of movie box office futures, which had been slated for approval in April.

Here is the DGA/IATSE/IFTA/NATO/MPAA comment letter dated March 31, 2010, objecting to the Cantor Exchange and Trend Exchange (TrendEx) on behalf of the Directors Guild of America, Independent Film and Television Alliance, International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, National Association of Theater Owners and Motion Picture Association of America.

The letter requests the CFTC delay action on the registration application of Media Derivatives (TrendEx) to be a designated contract market for movie box office futures until April 16, 2010 and indicates that the parties will be submitting a follow up comment addressing the merits of the application.
