Cantor Exchange Approved By CFTC As Futures Market: Are Box Office Futures Contracts Next?

The Cantor Exchange was approved today by the CFTC as a futures exchange. Check out Jabcat’s Box Office Futures Page under “Cantor Exchange: Regulatory Approval Process” and ”News/Analysis For Cantor Exchange” for important links.

Cantor Exchange plans to offer movie box office futures contracts based on domestic box office revenue. As with the earlier approval of MDEX, specific products based on box office revenue, as well as other entertainment futures, require separate approval from the regulators. At least three of the CFTC Commissioners appear skeptical about approving such products, perhaps because of the concerted action by the entertainment industry to kill the new exchanges, a last minute push engineered by the MPAA and aided by powerful allies in the US Congress.
