Trading with real money on movie box office futures, the financial market’s latest commodity, is just around the corner. You can soon invest in futures pegged to the four week opening box office of your favorite films. Think Iron Man 2 and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will shoot through the roof? Go long. Expect The A-Team and The Karate Kid to under-perform? Go short.
I’m not encouraging people to risk their hard earned money on this activity. It already costs enought to go to the movies. But for the brave or curious you can dip yourt toes in the water and practice trading at the Cantor Exchange for the market which is expected to open late April 2010. One financial journalist has already announced that he plans to get insanely addictedto the new movie trading platform. So if you’re bored studying Florida weather patterns searching for that elusive edge when trading orange juice futures, or you’re just a film buff who’d like to make (or lose) some money on your favorite pastime, happy days are (almost) here again!
