Ondine (Movie Trailer) – Starring Colin Farrell, Alison Barry and Alicja Bachleda

Ondine

There’s some magic happening in this enticing trailer. A story set on the Irish coast about a fisherman (Farrell) who pulls up a beautiful woman in his net.

She may be a mermaid, or selkie in Irish lore. That seems to be the mystery in what looks to be a charming tale directed by Neil Jordan, best known for The Crying Game (1992). Colin Farrell is impressive in the trailer. He seems a natural in the role of fisherman and father to a young girl. Strong acting from all involved, including his young daughter (Barry) and Alicja Bachleda as the mermaid/woman. Alison Barry’s first role. Alicja Bachleda is a Polish actress. I like the tone and style. The Irish countryside and rolling waves are dark but beautiful, the story realistic with magical overtones. Farrell’s character is apparently single and the woman he plucks from the sea will have an indelible impact on him and his daughter. That much is clear.

US release date is apparently this summer.
