Casting is an art form. When actors play brothers or sisters in a film we often forgive the fact that they don’t look very much like one another. Did we care when Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock played sisters in Practical Magic? Not really. But there are times when the differences are so stark that we, as movie-goers, are unforgiving. We sit in our seats shaking our heads, wondering when the story will reveal through dialogue or action that these siblings are from different mothers. What other explanation can there be? They are distinct unmatched creatures who could not possibly share the same gene pool. Unless, of course, they are candidates for a Jabcat Movie Award.
