Here are the nominees for Best Supporting Actor In A Movie I Saw In 2009:

Rupert Friend - loyal, quiet but wise as Prince Albert, who falls for and marries Emily Blunt’s Queen in The Young Victoria

Jae Head - Sandra Bullock’s friendly young son with the quirky voice and big spirit in The Blind Side

Michael Shannon - mentally ill mathematician who speaks truth unvarnished by the normal constraints of polite discourse, his words exciting and alarming Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in Revolutionary Road (film limited release 12/08, I saw ’09)

Martin Starr - book-loving intellectual, tinged by fatalism and yearning for a girlfriend, who smokes a pipe when he’s not working at a theme park one summer in Adventureland, the year’s best film

Ken Jeong - take your pick: Mr. Chow, the Asian crime lord in The Hangover; Teddy Dang, the clueless, sometimes abused user car salesman in The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard

And the Jabby™ for Best Supporting Actor In a Movie I Saw in 2009 goes to:

WE  HAVE A TIE!

Martin Starr and Michael Shannon
